DJ AM Found Dead; Drug Overdose Suspected

Celebrity disk-jockey DJ AM (also known as Adam Goldstein) was found dead on the floor of his apartment in Manhattan on Friday afternoon, according to law-enforcement officials. The details of his death are still unclear, but sources say drug paraphernalia was found at the scene and police are looking into the possibility of drug overdose.

Goldstein and Blink-182 member Travis Barker were seriously injured in September of 2008 when the Learjet they were traveling in crashed during takeoff in Columbia, SC. The two were the only survivors, as the four others traveling with them died.

Goldstein, originally from Philadelphia, was briefly engaged to reality TV star Nicole Richie in 2005. He threw out the first pitch for a Mets game on August 23rd, and his last Twitter post on Aug. 25 said "New York, New York big City of dreams, but everything in new york ain't always what it seems."

According to Goldstein's MySpace page, he was supposed to be performing at the club Rain in Las Vegas Friday night.

Goldstein was working on a new intervention-type reality show with MTV called “Gone Too Far,” which would provide help for teens struggling with drug and alcohol addiction. Goldstein has battled drug addiction in the past.

Last year, he revealed that he was abused by his father, was addicted to drugs, and once attempted suicide. He said he attended recovery meetings and had been sober for nearly 10 years.
